Tree climbing at Kindergarten
We place a great value on our trees at our beautiful kindergarten. With this, we navigate a sensible balance between allowing our tamariki to take risks, but ensuring we are taking our safety responsibilities seriously. Tree climbing provides children with the opportunity to learn to manage and assess risk, and to overcome fear. In Steiner-Waldorf education, play is seen as the child’s work. It is important for us to create an environment that facilitates play in its true form, allowing our tamariki to take the lead in this process.
We celebrate our trees in many different ways, such as our morning circle that incorporates movement and song about our different fruit trees – our grapefruit tree, hazelnut tree, feijoa tree, persimmon tree, and our cherry tree.
“Life must be lived as play.”
