“Buns and Soup Day”
Tuesday… Or as our tamariki like to call it… “Buns and Soup day!”
Baking and cooking are important parts of our purposeful curriculum here at Pathways. In this, our children learn through imitation, while experiencing life in awe and reverence in a way that is unhurried.
Our tamariki help to prepare vegetables for our soup, and we all sit together when rolling our buns. To make this even more meaningful, we sing a song with slow movements to help facilitate different ways to use our hands when shaping each bun, emphasizing the aroha that goes into preparing this delicious kai… And of course, lunchtime is a time of togetherness and enjoyment while we nurture our bodies with yummy freshly made kai!
The words to the song are:
“Aroha is love and if you give it away, give it away, give it away… Aroha is love and if you give it away, it will come right back to you. It’s just like a magic penny, hold on tight and you won’t get any. Lend it, Spend it, Give it away, and it comes right back to you.”
